Mayor Grant Spieth
Mayor Spieth has been apart of the Mayor’s Office as a City of Columbus Council Member or Mayor for the last twenty years. His first Mayoral service started in 1999. He has served four mayoral terms (including the current term). When he wasn’t running/filling in for Mayor, he served on the Columbus City Council as Ward III representative. Mayor Spieth comes from a public service background. His professional career includes over 30 years in the private sector in retail management in the Kansas City area and then came back to Columbus to work as a manager for Crossland Construction. He also worked 6 years in the public sector for the State of Kansas. His professional career as a public servant and his love for Columbus which brought him back to his hometown led to his public service. His dedication to the City of Columbus has only increased since his retirement with Crossland in 2016.
Mayor Spieth has served on many boards, including; the National Association of Housing and Development, Columbus Trails where he assisted the city to create a trail system, Cherokee County Emergency Response Team (CERT), Lions Club (including President) since 2009 where he has played an integral part of keeping this club alive and Columbus Pride where he volunteers on a monthly basis and recently installed a new playground at Reeves Park. When he’s not in the office assisting City staff with his computer/mapping skills or speaking to students about the importance of getting involved in your community, he’s leading his Church as an Elder building water systems in the Dominican Republic or leading community mission trips.
His volunteer work and leadership positions inspire everyone around him as he consistently shows his concern and dedication to Columbus. He is looked at by all as our community leader because of his versatility and commitment.
