Places to Go
City Parks One of our biggest sources of pride is our beautiful City Parks system. Our parks provide world-class amenities and activities for residents and visitors alike. The City of Columbus/Parks and Recreation Commission strives to create an environment where children and families can safely play and interact with nature. In Summer 2020, a state-of-the-art bicycle park called “Ian’s Place” was installed at Reeves Park. In addition to this exciting development, the city offers an 18-hole disc golf course, tennis and basketball courts, a regulation-size soccer field, horseshoe pits, sand volleyball, numerous playgrounds, and many shelters that may be rented for special events including family reunions and birthday parties. For more information on our City Parks, please visit our Parks page. During the summer months, our municipal pool is a cool and refreshing place for the entire family. Once you are finished having a picnic in the park, you can go for a dip in our pool which is equipped with a kiddie pool, diving boards, water slide, and a concession stand. For more information, please visit our City Pool page.

Clock tower- This 1919 Seth Thomas Clock is housed in a 40-foot climate controlled tower on the NW corner of the Cherokee County Courthouse lawn. Visitors may stand and look through the three picture windows and watch all the mechanisms whirl and work. The Face is marble and hands are made of walnut. All original from 1919. The clock Gongs on hour and half-hour and can be heard all over town. The clock was purchased in 1918 as a memorial to WWI veterans and installed in the old courthouse tower. When the new courthouse was built in 1954 the clock faces were incorporated into the new building, but the mechanisms were thrown in a county barn, in gravel, left to rust until it was rescued in the late 1980s, put back together so the community would once again hear its gong and know the time of day.
Claythorne Lodge- Claythorne is ranked among the best shooting and hunting preserves in the United States. Claythorne provides its clientele a choice of guided and unguided, upland style quail, pheasant and chukar hunts.
