Burning Requirements
The City of Columbus’ burning requirements do not request you to obtain a physical permit, but you must first contact the Columbus Fire Department prior to burning to get approval. The decision to implement a burn ban is made by county or city government leadership based on local conditions.
Permission to burn will still require that certain criteria be met, including the following:
- A nearby outdoor water supply
- Accurate contact information for an individual over the age of 18
- An accurate listing of materials to burn
- Approved weather conditions
- Compliance with KDHE Requirements
