“The Mission of the Columbus Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in the City of Columbus by working cooperatively with citizenry to enforce the laws, preserve the peace, reduce fear and provide for a safe environment in a way which strikes the optimum balance between the collective interests of all citizens and the personal rights of all individuals, while displaying no partiality to social or political influences.”

Staff
The Columbus Police Department is currently staffed by nine fulltime Law Enforcement Officers, three part-time Law Enforcement Officers, with one of the part-time officers also serving as the Chaplain. There is also one full-time Animal Control Officer and a full-time Municipal City Court Clerk.
Reporting Crimes
For emergencies call 911. Our office number is 620-429-1332. We are open to the public Monday thru Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. If no one answers or you call after normal business hours, please call 620-429-3992, and a dispatcher will make sure an officer is dispatched to assist you.

What do I need for a VIN Inspection?
You will need to bring the vehicle, the out of state title and a driver’s license. The fee for the inspection is $20.00. A vehicle inspection can be performed during our normal business hours, Monday thru Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, excluding holidays and weekends.
