Water
The Public Works Department manages the City’s water utility. Our goal is to supply quality water to our customers at a reasonable rate.
Water Department
The Water department handles water distribution. Water staff handles meter reading, water turn on and turn-offs, water projects, repairing meters and water breaks, performing valve exercising, and hydrant flushing to clean the system and responds to citizen concerns and complaints. Our goal is to supply quality water to our customers at a reasonable rate.
Sanitation
The Public Works Department manages the city’s trash service. Trash is collected once a week. For more information, click on this brochure. The City’s sanitation department also holds a fall and spring clean-up for citizens.
Sewer
The Sewer Department monitors all lift stations and distribution lines for clogs and breaks. Billing of water and sewer is handled through the City Clerk.
Toilet paper is the only thing that should be flushed down the toilet, all other products should be placed in the trash. Flushing other products can cause sanitary sewer backups, overflows, clog pipes, and other issues at the wastewater treatment plant, our homes, and the environment. Want to know what items to avoid? Cemetery
Our beautiful cemeteries, City Cemetery and Park Cemetery, are located just east of the city. Columbus City Cemetery is the older cemetery that belongs to the town of Columbus. It is on the south side of the road, across the street from Park Cemetery. The City cemetery has numbers for sections and the Park Cemetery uses letters for the sections of burial locations.
Public Buildings
The Public Works department maintains many City buildings including the Community building. For more information, please visit our Property & Parks page.
