Columbus is a City of the second class. The City Council meets twice each month on the 1st and 3rd Monday at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, located at 300 E. Maple St. All meetings are open to the public. The City of Columbus provides water, sewer, and sanitation utilities to its residents. New residents will pay a $50 service connection fee, which includes the issuance of a trash container. Utility bills are issued the first week of each month and are due by the 15th of each month. Late payments are assessed 10% penalty. The City allows for several convenient payment options, including online payments and an after-hours accessible dropbox located at City Hall. AutoPay is available! To obtain water service a $50 non-refundable collection fee is required. You will receive a bill the first week of each month with a due date of the 15th. Bills are due and payable after the 15th, however, a 10% penalty is added. A drop-box is available and located on the West side of City Hall in the Drive-Thru for before or after-hours payments. AutoPay is also available for monthly bills, to sign up you may print and return the form or pick one up at City Hall. We also accept payments online (link to pay bill) or by telephone. Dogs are required to be registered by April 1st each calendar year. To register your pet you must provide a completed registration form, a copy of their current rabies vaccination, and a $5.00 registration fee. The tags are available at the Columbus Police Department located at 300 E. Maple. The City of Columbus has a ban on pit bull dogs.
